About YoyoBob
As a child, I had the opportunity to experiment with violin and piano, but I soon became more serious with playing the trumpet in school. Playing as a part of my school band taught me a lot about how different voices can come together as one to form a bigger musical idea, and before long I had started to arrange pieces for my friends and I to try to play together. First, as many musicians do, I wrote out what I heard from other songs that I liked, trying to capture each intricate section by ear. Soon however, I began writing original works that I had more control over. During the last two years of my high school career I wrote as much as I could and in succession unofficially released three albums full of “experiments.” Strangers, Looking Forward, and Anticipation for Immanent Vindication became the starting block for my creative side business.
Having grown up as a third culture kid, constantly moving between the United States and the Democratic Republic of Congo, in the heart of Africa, I found musical inspiration all around me. From mainstream American pop all the way to tribal African drums and chants, my style started to develop with no way of distinguishing exactly where my ideas were coming from. However, around that same time I was introduced to the music of another young artist named Adam Young who’s project under the name Owl City had just blown up on charts around the world. His sounds and style instantly caught my attention and the fact that he was a one-man band lit a spark in my mind, making me realize that I didn’t need anyone else’s help, I could do this music thing all on my own.
